Europe: A New Experience Every Time
We travel to Europe nearly every year, and each trip looks different. Sometimes we’re walking the cliffside paths of Cinque Terre, staying in a cosy BnB perched on the cliff face of Manarola. Other times, we’re soaking up the elegance of the French Riviera, eating crêpes in a stone cave shop in Menton. We’ve walked the Monaco Grand Prix track, wandered the cobbled streets of Florence, and uncovered remnants of wartime bunkers deep in the forests of Poland.
India: Timeless Beauty in the Desert
One of the most unique stays we’ve had was in Jaisalmer, India inside an ancient room carved into the wall of an 868-year-old golden sandstone fort. The desert around it was silent and timeless, and at night, the stars felt close enough to touch.
Morocco, Eastern Europe: Ever-Evolving Adventures
Our destination choices are always evolving. One year it was Hungary’s bathhouses and the layered beauty of Eastern Europe. Another year, Morocco where we stood among snake charmers in Marrakesh’s El Fna Market, holding a cobra in the middle of the buzzing old medina.
Brazil: A Detour We’ll Never Forget
And then there was Brazil one of our most personal trips. We went for my brother’s wedding, a stunning celebration with over 500 guests and a feature in a major bridal magazine. Just getting there was an adventure. A volcanic eruption in Chile grounded flights across South America due to a massive ash cloud, disrupting airspace for weeks. We had to completely reroute instead of flying from Sydney to Santiago, we flew via Japan and New York before finally arriving in São Paulo. It wasn’t the path we’d planned, but it’s one we’ll never forget — a three-continent detour that made the celebration feel even more hard-earned.
Southeast Asia: Ocean Adventures and Sky-High Views
We’ve caught black marlin in the Andaman Ocean, island-hopped through Thailand’s Phang Nga Bay, and watched the sun rise on the white sands of Boracay. In Malaysia, we stood on the sky deck of the Petronas Towers, feeling like the world was at our feet.
When Things Didn’t Go to Plan
Not everything has gone smoothly. We’ve had food poisoning in both Nepal and India, lived simply in Metro Manila during a time when I was experimenting with dopamine detoxing, and once had to cancel a fully booked all-American road trip when another family wedding changed plans at the last minute. But every experience shaped us taught us something, gave us a story, or added a layer to this blog.
Nepal: Sacred Treks in the Himalayas
In Nepal, we trekked the Annapurna region off the beaten path, guided only by our Sherpa. The reward? A surreal 360-degree view from Kopra Ridge that made every step feel sacred.
Australia: Homegrown Memories and Epic Drives
Here in Australia, we’ve driven coast to coast. My husband is from Darwin and has done the 37-hour drive to the Gold Coast more than once. In our younger years, weekends away took us to places like Wilpena Pound and the Flinders Ranges wild, rugged landscapes full of memory. We’ve swum at Whitehaven Beach, snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef, and spent countless hours at Bondi Icebergs our favourite place to dip and chill.
New Zealand: A Story Stitched Across Two Islands
In New Zealand, we road-tripped from the North Island into the South, carefully crafting an itinerary filled with epic stops and hidden gems. The trip felt like stitching together a story across two islands and we’re always dreaming up the next one.
Bondi: Rituals at Home
Back home in Bondi, we’ve created our own rituals too. Friday nights meant Japanese takeout from Sake Street on Hall Street and a movie on the couch because not every journey needs a passport.
