Why We Chose Boracay Over Bali
Why Choose Boracay, Philippines?
If you’re dreaming of turquoise waters, powdery white sand, and tropical sunsets, you’ve probably thought of Bali. But there’s another destination in Southeast Asia that deserves your attention Boracay, Philippines.
This little island in the Philippines has become one of the most talked-about beach destinations in Asia, thanks to its government-led island cleanup and rehabilitation. Boracay was already stunning before, but today it’s even more pristine, peaceful, and welcoming to travellers. We did love it here below is an honest review.
Family-Friendly And Relaxed Vibes
Unlike some party-heavy destinations, Boracay feels safe, calm, and family-oriented.
Most visitors are couples and families, many from neighboring Asian countries
Security patrols ensure hawkers don’t disturb tourists on the main strip
Cafés, beach bars, and restaurants line the sand without overwhelming the natural beauty
Boracay manages to keep a balance between being tourist-friendly and maintaining a laid-back island atmosphere. It does feel pretty safe and definitely has a family vibe.
White Beach at Sunset
One of the island’s most famous spots is White Beach, known for its long stretch of fine white sand, lined with palm trees and boutique resorts.
Why White Beach is special:
Breathtaking sunsets every evening
Plenty of dining options, from casual bites to beachfront fine dining, not a lot of local food but american style franchise restaurants.
A lively yet relaxed atmosphere with friendly travellers
For a more dramatic sunset view, head to the rocky outcrop at the northern end of Diniwid Beach. Here, a bamboo-structured hotel hugs the hillside, with rooms partially overhanging the ocean. Rustic, charming, and unforgettable.
Beyond the Main Strip: Secluded Boracay Beaches
While White Beach is the heart of Boracay, there are smaller beaches worth exploring if you want more privacy.
Diniwid Beach
Just north of White Beach, a quieter alternative with clear waters
Fewer crowds, making it perfect for a peaceful swim
Stunning photo opportunities at sunset
Balinghai Beach
A tiny hidden gem where you can dine directly on the sand
Often nearly empty, ideal for couples
Best reached through the boutique hotel nearby or by boat from Diniwid
These smaller beaches give you a glimpse of Boracay’s more untouched side.

Food And Dining in Boracay
While Thailand offers plenty of traditional street food, Boracay’s main tourist strip is more international in flavour.
On White Beach you’ll mostly find:
American-style franchise restaurants
European cafés and bakeries
Some bars
To be honest its not really a foodie paradise, Bali would be better for cuisine. But natural beauty and beaches are very pretty. If you venture away from the main strip, you can discover authentic Filipino flavours, fresh seafood, and local-style eateries tucked into quieter corners of the island.

Where to Stay in Boracay
Unlike Phuket or Cancun, Boracay doesn’t have towering high-rises. Instead, accommodation is mostly 3–4 star boutique hotels and low-rise condos. This keeps the island feeling more natural and less overwhelming.
Types of stays you can expect:
Beachfront resorts along White Beach more 3-4 star
Secluded boutique hotels
Affordable guesthouses for budget travellers
Luxury villas for those seeking privacy and style
Final Thoughts: Boracay vs. Bali
In terms of food Bali has likely more to offer. Accomodation; Bali has a far more extensive array of luxury hotels than Boracay. Boracay is a small and somewhat underdeveloped island. Where it may have an edge is that its something different, the sunsets are amazing and the beaches are pretty, white sand and clean. If Bali feels too crowded or commercial for your taste, Boracay offers a more intimate island experience. With its crystal-clear waters, family-friendly vibe, and mix of lively beachfront and secluded hideaways, Boracay is called the jewel of the Philippines.
Whether you’re after a romantic sunset dinner on a private beach, a fun family trip, Boracay is an island that delivers.
